Nora’s News 01/2022

A new year

January’s run bitter cold. The other morning I woke to THREE degrees. A balmy eleven this morning, with no real end in sight on this cold front. I know those of you in the southern Hemisphere may be sweltering, deep into a hot summer. Trade ya!

While winter’s never my favorite time of year, I do what I can to get through until spring, starting with my post New Year routine.

I shared a blog post about our little time away in a private home at the spa – just for the change of scenery.  Then once back home, I dove into the annual whole house purge, always a satisfactory space-clearing exercise. One, maybe two, more weekends  may finish it!

Work continues as a constant for me.  Just before Christmas I finished the third book in the Dragon Heart Legacy.  The Choice hits the shelves on  November 22, 2022. 11/22/22–just feels like a lucky number! Now, in another January tradition, I’m back in New York 2061 – where it’s summer—checking in on Eve, Roarke and their world.

Abandoned in Death

Abandoned in Death – last winter’s work – is on shelves February 8.

This case opens when a woman’s body is found in the early morning, on a bench in a New York City playground. She’s clean, her hair neatly arranged, her makeup carefully applied. But other things are very wrong—like the tattoo and piercings, clearly new. The clothes, decades out of date. The fatal wound hidden beneath a ribbon around her neck. And the note: Bad Mommy, written in crayon as if by a child.

Dr. Mira, the NYPSD’s top profiler, confirms what seems obvious to Eve: They’re dealing with a killer whose childhood involved some sort of trauma—a situation with which Eve is all too familiar. Yet the clues suggest a perpetrator who’d be roughly sixty years old, and there are no records of old crimes with a similar MO. What was the trigger that apparently reopened such an old wound and sent someone over the edge?

When Eve discovers that other young women—who physically resemble the first victim—have vanished, the clock starts ticking louder. But to solve this case she will need to find her way into a hidden place of dim light and concrete, into the distant past, and into the cold depths of a shattered mind.

Order from TTP

While we’re still evaluating the safety of holding events at Turn the Page Bookstore at some point this year, you can always order a signed copy of Abandoned in Death from TTP.  The TTP team has great fun showcasing items of the week on the TTP Facebook and Instagram pages.  Cheers rang out across the land when the I Dream of Roarke sleepshirt came back in stock.  And if you’re a collector, the first trade-size edition of Naked in Death is now available.

Brazen on Netflix

Readers ask me all the time if I ever go back and reread older books.  My answer is usually no, unless I’m looking up an old case in the In Death world.  Netflix gave me a chance to revisit Brazen Virtue which I wrote back in 1987! They did some serious updating to bring the book into 2022 and it was a lot of fun. It’s available on Netflix worldwide.

Nightwork excerpt

In a final January tradition, here’s a quick peek at Nightwork, which will be in stores May 24.  You’ll find Chapter One here. More details in the next newsletter.
Take care,
